이어 "드라마가 잘 되고, 못 되고는 예측할 수 없지만 제작사 본팩토리 대표님과 이야기한 건 백사언이라는 캐릭터는 사랑받지 않을까 생각했다. 그건 많은 분들이 정말 사랑을 해주시고 또 예상보다 더 많이 주신 것 같다"라고 평했다. 

또한 김지운 작가는 "K드라마에서 멜로 장르의 남자 캐릭터가 예전에 많이 사랑받던 시절의 유형이 있고, 진화도 하고 변화도 했다. 백사언은 클래식한 남자다. 표현하기보다는 안에 간직하고 지켜보고 바라봐주고. 그런 부분을 좋게 봐주신 것 같다"라고 덧붙였다.
