The crooner is back on the charts in the United Kingdom with a very familiar tune—one which sounds slightly different this year. Crosby’s estate recently released a new version of “White Christmas,” one of the bestselling holiday tracks of all time. The cut now features V of the band BTS, and his presence helped turn the cut into not just a hit, but the biggest of his late partner’s career on a handful of tallies.
The duet version of “White Christmas” debuts on a pair of charts across the pond this frame. It opens in second place on both of them, as Crosby and V almost dominated both tallies at once, though they were blocked by an odd champion.
Both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts are ruled by the same track this week, and it’s a tune that likely won’t find an audience outside of the United Kingdom. Sir Starmer and the Granny Harmers, a faux band that is making a point about the current political climate in the country, see their tune “Freezing This Christmas” debut at No. 1 on the two tallies, blocking both Crosby and V from a leader.
Crosby earns his first top 10 on both charts this week as the revamped “White Christmas” debuts. He’s only collected a pair of appearances on the Official Singles Sales ranking, as the solo “White Christmas” once hit No. 93.
Over on the Official Singles Downloads tally, Crosby has now landed a trio of wins, but his latest is still by far his biggest. The original “White Christmas” once peaked at No. 36, giving him a posthumous top 40 hit. His duet with David Bowie, the double single “Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy,” rose as high as No. 65 on the downloads ranking.
V, meanwhile, is not new to the top 10 on either chart. He’s now collected eight total smashes that have cracked that uppermost tier throughout his solo career, and that number doesn’t include his output as one-seventh of BTS.
