여기서 괄호 안에 있는 것 둘다 사용 된다는데 had eaten은 왜 안돼..? ‘먹는 중이었다’ 말고 그냥 ‘먹었다’ 라는 말은 finish the meal 을 사용해주는 건가? 했는데 밑에 문장에서 혼돈이 왔어..

They (had already eaten) lunch by the time I brought sandwiches for them.
여기선 왜 had eaten이 되는 걸까..?
