대구 북구 칠곡
칠곡 지역은 3면이 산으로 둘러싸인 분지 지형으로써 대구광역시의 다른지역과 지형적으로 명확히 구분된다. 지역의 남쪽 및 북쪽 끝에 입구(?), 초입부가 좁게 열려 있으며, 남쪽으로는 금호강에 의해 대구의 다른 시가지와 단절되어 있다. 그마저도 좁디 좁은 초입부에는 대구농수산물도매시장이 크게 자리하고 있어 일반 상권이 발달하기 힘든 구조이다. 특히, 칠곡3지구에서 국우터널을 이용해 대구 시내로 나가려면 산 넘고 물 건너 가야할 정도다.
이러한 지형상의 특징 때문에 칠곡 지역이 대구광역시의 다른 외곽 택지지구·신도지에 비해 독자적인 생활권을 이루고 있으며, 주민들은 지역에 대한 소속감이 강한 편이다. 다만, 대구 외곽의 다른 택지지구보다 체감상 거리가 멀게 느껴지고, 대구 시민들 사이에서 다른 도시(...)라는 인상을 주기도 한다.
